A’s All-Star candidate moves into first place in the latest voting

MIAMI – Yonder Alonso moved ahead of 11-time All-Star Miguel Cabrera by a slim margin in the latest posting of fan voting at first base Tuesday.

It’s a first for Alonso, who came into a two-game series in Miami with a .310 average, 16 homers and 36 RBI. He lives in Miami in the offseason and the game is in Miami, so that convergence would work well for him should he continue to gather votes.

“Individually it’s pretty cool,” Alonso said. “Obviously it’s so far away, I’m not really thinking about it. I’m worrying about tonight. My concern is playing the game of baseball, and playing it today.
