ANAHEIM - The A’s acquired catcher Dustin Garneau on Friday, claiming him on waivers from the Rockies.
Oakland has yet to provide Garneau with an assignment or to make a corresponding move, often an indication that a team is waiting for their new player to arrive before reassigning another player.
That suggests the A’s might expect Garneau in Anaheim on Saturday; backup catcher Ryan Lavarnaway likely would be designated for assignment if that is the case.
Garneau, 29, opened the season with Colorado and hit .206 with a home run and six RBIs in 22 games, and he was batting .
