ANAHEIM - Two pitchers who weren’t in their team’s rotations to open the season put on a show shutting down hitters Tuesday night at Angel Stadium, but the game was decided long after both left when Kole Calhoun delivered an RBI single to center with two outs in the 1tth to give the Angels a 2-1 win.
Ryan Madson allowed a base hit by Danny Espinosa to open the inning and Martin Maldonado moved him to second with a two-strike sacrifice bunt, setting up Calhoun’s heroics. The A’s had had a chance in the top of the inning with Adam Rosales at second with one out, but Ryon Healy flied out and Jed Lowrie popped up against Brooks Pounders.
