Andy Dolich: Oakland A’s gondola plan is pie in the sky

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

In the case of the Oakland A’s, their search for a new ballpark has taken them to many forks in the road. Now, they are exploring using an aerial gondola to transport fans from downtown to the Port of Oakland’s Howard Terminal, where the team is thinking of building a new ballpark.

This particular fork has them going over the road: All lanes of Interstate 880, multiple access streets to Howard Terminal, Union Pacific Railroad tracks and BART.

This idea started after BART General Manager Grace Crunican told the A’s that the transit system would not be interested in building a new station near Howard Terminal for their proposed ballpark.
