Alonso expected to return to lineup Tuesday

A's manager Bob Melvin said Sunday morning, "He went after it in the cage today," and didn't rule out the possibility of him coming off the bench during the afternoon against Boston.

Alonso's 12 homers are second most on the team to Khris Davis' 13, but others are flashing power, too; the A's entered the day with an American League-best 63 home runs.

"It means we have some depth, and we're not just relying on Yonder and Khris," Melvin said. "It's everybody that's got some power in the lineup. As far as the team knowing that, too, you have the ability to score quickly.
