OAKLAND — The A’s entered Sunday’s game against the Braves in the cellar of the American League West after a first half that has been riddled with injuries and historically bad defense, but one Athletic is getting rewarded for his impressive first half with a homecoming of sorts.
First baseman Yonder Alonso was announced as the lone All-Star selection for the A’s. Currently batting .280 with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs, the Cuban-born Alonso will be representing Oakland as a reserve at this year’s All-Star game at Marlins Park in Miami, the city where Alonso grew up and went to college.
