The first of three bench-clearing altercations began with Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera and Yankees catcher Austin Romine. Tigers starter Michael Fulmer drilled Gary Sanchez with a pitch an inning after he went deep off of him. Then, the Yankees retaliated.
Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle threw behind Cabrera and was immediately ejected, along with manager Joe Girardi.
