The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are not expected to retain offensive coordinator Chip Long for the 2020 season. Rumors had been swirling about Long’s departure, but Tim Prister from Irish Illustrated has reported that sources have told him Chip Long will no longer be the offensive coordinator for Notre Dame.
There is a widely discussed view that the Irish will promote from within — either Tommy Rees or Lance Taylor, but I would caution any assumption at this point.
I don’t believe this is something that “just happened” between Long and Notre Dame, as the relationship never felt all that strong with Brian Kelly.
