The Syracuse Orange came into Notre Dame Stadium and ran 80 plays to only 39 for the Fighting Irish. Cuse also dominated time of possession by a 42-18 minute margin and earned more first downs. That sounds like a rout to me. However, as Lee Corso loved to say, “Not so fast, my friend.” Unfortunately for the Orange, they were squeezed unmercifully by Notre Dame’s swarming defense and fell by a whopping 70-7 margin. Syracuse managed to score against the Irish cheerleaders and ushers with seven seconds remaining to avoid the shutout.
Safety Jalen Stroman started the party with a pick-six on the second play of the game.
