The game was tied at 10 and Michigan State was driving on Notre Dame when a trick play backfired on the Spartans. RB R.J. Shelton tried a deep pass into triple coverage, and Matthias Farley picked it off and took the ball the other way with a solid return. Farley was hit after running out of bounds, drawing a flag that tacked 15 extra yards onto his interception return.
