Notre Dame News: FSU Favorite To Land Everett Golson

The Florida State Seminoles have emerged as the favorite to land former Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Everett Golson, according to multiple sources.

“Barring a last-minute change of heart or any influence from elsewhere, [Florida State’s] where he’s headed,” one source said, via 247sports.

Golson announced his plans to transfer from Notre Dame for his final year of eligibility late last week. Texas and several SEC schools automatically became favorites to land Golson, but are running into issues.

Notre Dame has blocked the transfer to any school on the Irish's 2015 schedule, eliminating the Longhorns. LSU, South Carolina, and Georgia (and any other SEC team that may be interested, but Golson has been linked to those three schools) are being held up by SEC Bylaw 14.1.15.1 (d), which says a prospective student-athlete is eligible to get scholarship money, practice, and compete if they have not been “subject to official university or athletics disciplinary action at any time during enrollment at any previous college institution.”

Golson was suspended from Notre Dame during the 2013 fall semester for “poor academic judgement," meaning he was out of football that year.

He has thrown 41 touchdown passes to 20 interceptions in two seasons as Notre Dame's starter while leading the Irish to the 2012 BCS National Championship Game.
