Chaotic evening at Stamford Bridge leaves VAR system called a ‘shambles’ and ‘shocking’ as Chelsea defeat Norwich on penalties in FA Cup replay

A night of chaos at Stamford Bridge saw nine-man Chelsea rely on penalties to beat Norwich City as the Video Assistant Referee system was branded a ‘shambles’ and ‘shocking’.

Chelsea’s FA Cup third-round replay went the distance after a stoppage-time header from 19-year-old Jamal Lewis cancelled out Michy Batshuayi’s opener.

Substitute Eden Hazard scored the winning penalty but Antonio Conte was left furious as Willian was booked for diving in the box before Pedro and Alvaro Morata were sent off in extra time.
