Promotion chasers Preston saw off Bristol City with a 2-1 win at Deepdale to move up to eighth place in the table.

The home side took the lead when Billy Bodin’s delivery was cleared, but only as far as Alan Browne who managed to lob goalkeeper Frank Fielding from 25 yards out. The visitors responded shortly after half-time via Famara Diedhiou who glanced beyond Declan Rudd to level.

But Sean Maguire struck in the 69th minute to give Preston the advantage, before Bristol City’s Aden Flint was dismissed after a confrontation in the box near full-time.

Hull went behind in the first 30 seconds and never recovered as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Millwall.
