Sebastian Rivera was undefeated in the 125-pound weight class as he entered the Big Ten Championships. He made that record stand up this weekend in Minneapolis, winning three straight matches to earn the conference title in the 125-pound weight class.
The championship match ended in thrilling fashion as Rivera took down Iowa’s Spencer Lee in overtime for a 6-4 win. Lee, the 2018 national champion, was ranked No. 1 in his weight class before Rivera defeated him at the Midlands Championship in December.
Rivera’s victory marked Northwestern’s first individual conference title since 2015, and their first-ever win in the 125-pound weight class.
