Women’s lacrosse to go into NCAA Tournament as No. 4 overall seed

Northwestern women’s lacrosse officially became the No. 4 seed for the NCAA Tournament Sunday night after a remarkable win over Maryland in the Big Ten championship game made them the automatic Big Ten qualifier.

This marks the Wildcats’ 16th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Northwestern has not won a national title since 2012. But up until yesterday, the Wildcats had also not beaten the Terrapins since 2012 — and they just took care of that.

The win Sunday allowed the Wildcats to jump over Syracuse, now seeded No. 5, to round out the top four seeds. Northwestern will take on the winner of Notre Dame and Stanford at their home field in Evanston on Sunday, May 12.
