Women’s basketball: Northwestern uses 18-0 fourth quarter run to slide past Illinois

Down by 11 points to lowly Illinois with seconds remaining in the third quarter, the Northwestern women’s basketball team needed some momentum.

Suddenly, Veronica Burton nailed a buzzer-beating shot from just inside half-court. The Wildcats (13-7, 6-3) didn’t look back, going on an 18-0 run to turn an 11-point deficit into a seven-point lead en route to a 64-56 victory over the Fighting Illini (9-11, 1-8). Northwestern has now won four games in a row to vault into a tie for fourth place in the Big Ten.
