Bates has been with Northwestern since 2006 when Pat Fitzgerald added him to the staff upon becoming head coach. Bates was one of the first hires of the Fitzgerald era and has done a fantastic job developing linebackers of late. Northwestern’s defense has been anchored by quality linebackers like Anthony Walker Jr., Nate Hall and Paddy Fisher.
