According to the Chicago Tribune’s Teddy Greenstein, TJ Green has won the backup quarterback job, and will start next Thursday at Purdue if Clayton Thorson can’t go. Greenstein said the walk-on — who’s known for his intelligence and grasp for the offense — beat out underclassmen Aidan Smith and Andrew Marty for the job.
All signs point to Thorson being ready for Week 1, and he’s getting the majority of the reps with the first-team, but it remains unclear whether Dr. James Andrews has medically cleared Thorson for game action.
