Former Northwestern soccer goalkeeper Tyler Miller has signed with the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer, the club announced Tuesday.
Miller was drafted by the Sounders in the second round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft back in January, but chose to sign with German fourth division club SVN Zweibrücken.
Miller played at Zweibrücken through the end of the European season, but then returned to the United States to play with the Seattle Sounders reserve team, Sounders 2. Miller, however, had to undergo thumb surgery less than a month later.
Miller has now signed a first team contract, and will compete with Charlie Lyon, another 2015 draft pick of the Sounders, for the backup role in Seattle.
