There was a lot of unknown about the Northern Iowa wrestling team entering the 2021 season, but if this weekend’s results were any indication, these next few months could be pretty fun in Cedar Falls.
The Panthers registered two dual victories on Sunday, topping both South Dakota State and North Dakota State in a tri-meet in Brookings, S.D. Northern Iowa opened with a 28-13 win over the host Jackrabbits, then closed with a 27-11 win over the Bison.
In the first opportunity for the new-look Panthers to showcase their abilities, the results looked like this: 13 wins in 20 contested matches, with five pins and a major decision.
