The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Sunday with a 59-51 win over Akron.
Amber Sorenson led the way for the Panthers, scoring a game-high 25 points. Madison Weekly added 11 points.
Both teams struggled from the field. Akron hit 31 percent of its shots, while UNI managed just 26.5 percent.
The difference was largely the 3-point shot. The Panthers scored 10 baskets from beyond the arc on a stunning 40 attempts. The Zips went 4-of-13 from 3.
The Panthers surged out to a 33-14 lead at halftime, thanks in part to the Zips’ three-point first quarter, and held on for the win.
