CEDAR FALLS, Ia. — For more than three hours, Northern Iowa and Iowa State volleyball teams attacked each other in record-setting fashion.
Northern Iowa beat Iowa State 27-29, 40-38, 25-23, 17-25, 15-10 Tuesday at the McLeod Center.
It was the highest total points scored by each team ever and the second-highest scoring NCAA Division I match since the current scoring system began in 2008. Wichita State scored 127 in a 2014 match. Iowa State finished with 125, Northern Iowa 124.
"Those are the types of games you just dream about," said Northern Iowa's Amie Held, who smashed a team-best 23 kills.
