UNI rugby coach Murra dies unexpectedly

CEDAR FALLS -- Steve Murra, a driving force behind the University of Northern Iowa's club rugby program and its longtime coach, died unexpectedly Saturday.

Murra, 47, coached at UNI for more than 20 years and was a history professor. His teams won two national championships before he stepped aside after last season to spend more time with his family.

Murra also coached the Midwest Thunderbirds select teams (U23, college level and others), and won multiple championships.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.
