COAL VALLEY, Ill. --- UNI's Connor Van Weelden sank a pair of birdies on the back nine and sits among the top-10 on the leaderboard after the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships on Sunday at the Oakwood Country Club.
Preseason favorite Illinois State leads the field at 276 with Felix van Dijk topping the leaderboard after registering a score of 65 (-6) in the opening round of play. Valparaiso sits in second place, followed by Belmont in third. UNI is tied for fourth place at 287 with Southern Illinois.
Van Weelden's birdies came on the 11th and 15th holes as part of a first round score of 70 (-1), sitting in a five-way tie for ninth place.
