Northern Iowa wrestlers thump South Dakota State for season’s first Big 12 victory

A couple of former Iowa high school stars squared off in Brookings, South Dakota on Friday night.

In a Big 12 dual, 19th-ranked Northern Iowa traveled to Frost Arena to take on South Dakota State. The featured matchup came at 149 pounds, between Max Thomsen, a four-time state champion from Union of LaPorte City, and Henry Pohlmeyer, a state champion from Johnston.

In the end, Pohlmeyer, ranked 16th nationally by Trackwrestling, defeated 9th-ranked Thomsen, 2-1.
