NCAA volleyball: Cyclones, Panthers fall in first round

The state of Iowa ended a short run in the NCAA volleyball tournament Thursday. Northern Iowa and Iowa State both lost in first-round matches.

Iowa State lost to Purdue 26-24, 25-21, 25-13 in Columbia, Mo., to end the team's 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament run.

Northern Iowa took Creighton to five sets before falling 16-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-14, 15-12 jn Lawrence, Kan.

Samara West led the Cyclones (18-11) with 10 kills. Jess Schaben added nine. Libero Hali Hillegas topped the defense with 16 digs.
