CEDAR FALLs, Ia. — Northern Iowa didn’t have to go far for its latest addition, about 20 miles north to be exact.
The Panthers brought in Waverly-Shell Rock High School product Austin Phyfe Wednesday as part of National Signing Day’s early signing period, inking the 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward as yet another quality in-state piece. UNI currently has 10 Iowa natives on its current roster.
“The importance of that cannot be overstated,” Panthers coach Ben Jacobson told The Des Moines Register. “We’ve worked very hard to recruit our state, and some of the best high players in the state have made the decision to come and play for us.
