John Nagel still plans to play college football close to home.
It just won’t be with Northern Iowa like he originally intended. The 6-foot-6 senior at West Delaware flipped his commitment on Friday from nearby UNI to Iowa State, days after the Cyclone coaching staff extended him a Power 5 scholarship offer.
A Class 3A standout at tight end and defensive end, Nagel went to summer camps at Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska, but was left with FCS and mid-major FBS options. He gave his verbal commitment to coach Mark Farley and the Panthers in August as a two-star prospect.
