Hunter Garvin grew up less than five miles from Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 90 minutes from the West Gym in Cedar Falls and two hours from Hilton Coliseum in Ames, but decided on Monday that he’ll be leaving his home state for college.
Garvin, a senior wrestler at Iowa City West, told the Des Moines Register that he has committed to the Stanford wrestling program. He picked the Cardinal over Iowa State and Northern Iowa, among others, and projects at 149/157 pounds.
“I wasn’t thinking too much about Stanford at all, but when I went on the visit, it just clicked,” Garvin said in a phone interview Monday morning.
