The Northern Iowa wrestling program picked up the first commitment for its 2023 recruiting class on Monday morning, as Garret Rinken, a junior from nearby Nashua-Plainfield, announced his commitment to the Panthers.
Rinken made his commitment through his personal Instagram page. He is among one of the state's best lightweights — a three-time Class 1A state medalist, a two-time state finalist and 2021 state champ. He has compiled a three-year prep record of 157-4. He went 57-1 and took second at 120 pounds this past season. He projects at 125/133.
Additionally, Rinken won USA Wrestling's folkstyle national tournament in March, going 4-0 at 120.
