Drake, UNI women playing like Missouri Valley favorites

One thing is clear after just 11 games: The Drake women’s basketball team can shoot, and shoot well.

As the Missouri Valley Conference opens league play this week, the Bulldogs are at or near the top in most every offensive category. They score the most points (82.3 per game), shoot the best from the floor (48.9 percent) and from the free-throw line (76.2), and they are third from deep (33.6; Southern Illinois is first, at 35.9).

Northern Iowa isn’t far behind, matching Drake’s 7-4 record for tops in the conference. The Bulldogs and Panthers were picked to go 1-2, respectively, in the Valley in the preseason, and are playing as such.
