The Northern Illinois baseball team struggled to get much going offensively in its 5-1 loss at Boston College in the season opener at Camelback Ranch in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday.
The Huskies (0-1) managed just three hits on the day, including an RBI single by sophomore Brad Wood in the bottom of the ninth inning. Senior Justin Fletcher and junior Jason Gasser also added singles for the Huskies in the loss.
Making his first start for Northern Illinois, junior college transfer Joe Hawks took the loss – allowing five earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
