NIU men's basketball: Porter's free throws push Huskies to overtime victory in season opener

DeKALB – Die by the free throw, live by the free throw.

After the Northern Illinois men's basketball team's performance at the line allowed Indiana State to force overtime, Huskies sophomore guard Laytwan Porter sealed the win with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds of a wild 80-78 victory in the season opener at the NIU Convocation Center.

"I thought it was a heck of a opener," Northern Illinois coach Mark Montgomery said. "Clutch situations, you have to make your free throws at the end of the game to close it out."

In the final 59 seconds of regulation, the Huskies went 3 for 8 from the free-throw line.
