UNIVERSITY PARK -- It all started up again in 2014. SMU and North Texas were set to meet in football for the first time in seven years. Radio host George Dunham, a UNT alumnus, ranted on-air about his hatred for the neighboring Mustangs in the middle of an interview with then-Mean Green head coach Dan McCarney.
"I hate SMU and always have," Dunham said. "If they were playing Russia State, I would root for Russia State to beat them by four touchdowns."
He got the catharsis he wanted that year. UNT pummeled the Mustangs 43-6 in Denton.
