U.S. Soccer Opens With 2-0 Olympic Win Over NZ

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (Aug. 3, 2016) - The U.S. Women's National Team defeated New Zealand 2-0 on goals from captain Carli Lloyd and forward Alex Morgan to get off to a strong start in Group G play at Mineirão Stadium in its first match of the 2016 Olympic Games.

UNC alumna Tobin Heath, '10, assisted on the game-winning goal by Carli Lloyd in the 10th minute of play. Heath was one of three former Tar Heels in the starting lineup for the Red, White and Blue. She started at left midfielder while Meghan Klingenberg, '11, was on the field in her usual starting role at left back.
