Ok, yes, it was just Mercer and this game was basically over in the first quarter. That being said, good lord, Sam Howell. UNC’s freshman quarterback wrote himself into the history books on Saturday.
Howell played just one half of football on the day, but he was extremely impressive in it, throwing for 152 yards on just 13 attempted. He only threw three incompletions on the day, two of which came in his final drive, and threw just as many touchdowns.
His first touchdown of the day came with the Tar Heels already up 14-0. After UNC got the ball back deep inside their own territory, it took a couple plays for them to work things up to their own 34-yard line.
