UNC Soccer: Tar Heel and USWNT legend Tobin Heath retires

Earlier this week, soccer star Tobin Heath announced her retirement after a long career full of accolades with both teams and as an individual. While she’s most known for her successes with the US Women’s national team, a prominent stop along the way came in Chapel Hill.

Before beginning her professional career, Heath played at North Carolina from 2006-09, helping the Tar Heels to the 2006, 2008, and 2009 national championships. As a senior, she was also runner-up for the Hermann Trophy — the college soccer equivalent of the Heisman Trophy — to future USWNT teammate and star Kelley O’Hara.
