UNC Football: Senior defensive back Patrice Rene out for season

The North Carolina Tar Heels will be without starting cornerback Patrice Rene for the remainder of the 2019 season after he suffered a torn ACL in Saturday’s win over the Miami Hurricanes, head coach Mack Brown announced in his Monday morning press conference.

A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Rene started every game for the Tar Heels in 2018, compiling 31 tackles, five passes defended and two interceptions. Now, though, the Tar Heels will be without that production, and his senior leadership for the foreseeable future.

Patrice could, however, apply for a medical redshirt that would help him retain his final season of college eligibility, and keep him in a North Carolina uniform through the winter of 2020.
