Freshman quarterback Sam Howell has been fantastic so far in his first season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, helping lead them to a 6-6 record and a bowl appearance. As Howell and the Tar Heels get set to take on Temple in the Military Bowl, the freshman is earning some more recognition.

On Monday just a few days before their matchup with Temple, Howell was named a finalist for the 2019 FWAA Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Year Award:
This is just the latest recognition for Howell who was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year and won a few Player of the Week honors.
