There are a couple of idioms that have been floating around somewhere behind my eyes for a few weeks now, swimming in the void between my ears and occasionally bumping into each other. They’re not necessarily opposed, these idioms, despite their occasional clash in my skull and the literal wording that would paint them as polar opposites; in fact, they go hand-in-hand in a kind of shrug-and-bear-it way, as we hurtle towards the NFL Draft and the long, hot summer months waiting just around the corner. As I’ve been looking forward to the Draft, with the help of fellow Tar Heel Blog writer Akil’s lovely draft profiles, I’ve felt that familiar tug from somewhere deep inside, pulling my thoughts back, as ever, to college football.
