UNC Basketball: Tar Heels commit earns McDonald’s All-American honors

In her first recruiting cycle as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, Courtney Banghart managed to secure a McDonald’s All-American.

Deja Kelly, a 5-foot-8 guard from the class of 2020, was originally committed to the University of Texas. She made headlines when she committed to the Longhorns as a seventh-grader, but decommitted and reopened her recruitment in 2018. She committed to North Carolina in mid-November, giving first-year head coach Courtney Banghart her second 5-star recruit since arriving in Chapel Hill.

Kelly announced her commitment to North Carolina just three days after scoring a career-high 46 points in an 85-43 win over McKinney High School.
