Despite failing to advance from pool play in the ACC Baseball Championship, UNC was pretty much assured to be hosting a regional, and almost guaranteed a spot among the Top 8 National Seeds, in the NCAA Baseball Championship. The first part of that was confirmed Sunday night, when the 16 regional hosts were announced. There were some surprises (ECU and Arizona over Duke and Indiana State, anybody?), but Chapel Hill as a regional host wasn’t one of them.
Some of the earlier projections we looked at assumed UNC, as the #1 seed in the ACCBC, to be the conference’s auto-bid by way of winning the championship, so they might have been getting over-seeded by a line or two based on the expectation of the high-profile wins that would have taken.
