Triangle Timehop: Today in local college basketball history (March 19)

March 19, 1977: North Carolina beats Kentucky 79-72 to advance to Dean Smith's fifth Final Four. UNC led by 12 at halftime but Kentucky rallied to make it close despite UNC going into the Four Corners early in the second half. Tommy LaGarde didn't play and Phil Ford got hurt the game before. Walter Davis, broken finger and all, led the way with 21 points. (WRAL Sports Fan)
