Members of the UNC men’s and women’s fencing teams competing at the January North American Cup in St. Louis, Mo., over the weekend, with a pair of freshmen turning in the highest finishes. Eleven Tar Heels fenced in the competition, which ran from Friday to Monday.
On Friday, sophomore Samantha Galina tied for 85th and freshman Erin O’Neill was 105th in junior women’s epee, which had a field of 130. In Div I men’s foil, sophomore Gabe Foster was 151 in a field of 196. In a junior men’s sabre field of 150, Connor Ritchey placed 35th, Matthew Garrelick 106th and Griffin Morehead T147th.
