Russell Leads U.S. Past Australia, 15-8



GUILDFORD, ENGLAND—A dominating stretch midway through the first half carried the United States women's lacrosse team to a 15-8 victory over longtime nemesis Australia during pool play at the 2017 FIL Rathbones World Cup in Guildford, England on Friday afternoon.

After the teams traded goals early, the U.S. ripped off six straight goals over a span of 11 minutes to take an 8-2 lead. Brooke Griffin scored back-to-back goals to start the run and the U.S. defense was relentless during the stretch, consistently forcing turnovers on the ride while limiting Australia to little time in the U.
