North Carolina announced a contract extension Friday for head basketball coach Roy Williams to keep him with the program through 2020.
A release posted on the school's athletics site notes Williams' base salary will grow from around $400,000 to nearly $600,000 over the course of the deal. He'll also receive deferred compensation of at least $1.5 million per year, a $40,000 expense account and bonuses for academic and on-court achievements.
The longtime coach talked about how the new agreement fits into his overall plan:
I've said I want to coach another six to 10 years, so this contract takes me right to the edge of that, which is good.
