CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina head women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell announced the hiring of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Bett Shelby on Tuesday. Shelby joins the Tar Heels from Maryland where she spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach and the Terrapins' recruiting coordinator.
Shelby, a native of Charlotte, N.C., will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of recruiting and working with the guards. Shelby played a significant role in landing three outstanding classes for Maryland, in 2016, '17 and '18. The 2018 class was ranked No. 5 in the country by ESPN.
