North Carolina wide receiver Dazz Newsome has been drafted by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. With this pick, Newsome becomes the fifth Tar Heel selected in this year’s draft, joining Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, Chazz Surratt, and Dyami Brown.
Newsome, a versatile threat his entire career, really gained attention on the national scene during an explosive junior campaign. With Mack Brown, Phil Longo, and Sam Howell guiding the offense, Newsome grabbed 72 receptions for 1,014 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those all ranked in the top-10 in the ACC that season. He also returned 17 punts for 168 yards, a 9.
