Maxwell Ford eagled his first hole as a Tar Heel and led the University of North Carolina with a 3-under-par 67 to highlight day one of the men's college golf season in the opening round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational Friday at the Olympia Fields Country Club North Course.
The Tar Heels are in third place in the 15-team field after shooting 1-over 281. Texas is first at 4-under 276 and Georgia Tech is a stroke back of the Longhorns.
Florida State is fourth at 3 over and Arizona State and the host Illini are fifth at 5 over.
