Eight Tar Heels Named To U.S. National Team Roster

Eight former Tar Heel field hockey players have been named to the 2017 Women’s National Team, announced Friday by USA Field Hockey. Jackie Briggs, Casey Di Nardo, Katelyn Falgowski, Kelsey Kolojejchick, Lauren Moyer, Loren Shealy, Caitlin Van Sickle and Julia Young were selected for the 27-player roster.

Moyer and Young, members of the 2016 Tar Heel squad that reached the NCAA Championship game, are new additions to the National Team after having been members of the Under-21 squad. The other six Carolina alums are veterans of the nation’s top team.

Under the direction of new head coach Janneke Schopman, former the head coach of the U21 team, this pool will form rosters for a number of competitions in the coming year, including the FIH Hockey World League Semifinals June 15-July 23 in South Africa and the Pan American Cup, which will be played on U.
